What's the difference between the TRIATHLETIX "Individual Coaching" and the "Written" Training Programs?
TRIATHLETIX – “Individual Coaching" is custom preparation for an event or a whole season of events. It begins with an in depth consultation to assess all aspects of your athletic history, your strengths and weaknesses, your specific goals, your time frame and more. The individual coaching continues with one-on-one connections between you and the coaches and that results in a program that develops as you evolve. (more FAQS about "TRIATHLETIX - Individual" coaching below)

Our "Written Training Programs" are comprehensive and specific programs to help guide you through the most scientific phases of endurance training. Attached to the programs are plenty of hints, tricks and tips on better technique for swim, bike, run, transitions, nutrition, hydration, and more.

How are "Written Training Programs" different from "Custom Built" programs?

Some of our training programs are designed for any race you decide to apply to the program. Prior to your purchase you will be asked specific questions: (your experience, available time, limiters, etc.) in order to best fit you with the right program. Note: Ironman and 1/2 Ironman programs are completed programs before your purchase.

Our "Custom Built" programs are designed to train you for a specific race. All programs have calendar start dates particular to an event's training time frame. The customization is more detailed here by designing the workouts to the specific demands of the racecourses. Note: Olympic, and Sprint distance programs start with a questionnaire to assess your fitness level, experience, and special needs. While Ironman and 1/2 Ironman programs are completed programs before your purchase.

Am I good enough to be an "TRIATHLETIX - Elite"?

That all depends on your racing experience. Most of our programs start with a preparation or base training period. This allows most novice athletes to build up a resistance to increasingly greater demands of training. However, the advanced athlete will have already achieved their "base" earlier in the season thus enabling them to bypass this particular phase of training. Although these programs are little shorter than their counter parts, they are packed full of challenging workouts, scientific clinics and more. The program is designed to condition an athlete at an optimum level for their desired race and distance.

What equipment will I need to train properly?

Not much! The great thing about triathlon is its simplicity. You will need the items necessary to swim, bike and run in comfort. It's not mandatory that you use a heart rate monitor but it is highly recommended that you do.

What is a Peak-Taper?

We have found that most Triathletes will train randomly through out the year. However, when it comes down to the last few weeks, most athletes panic and want some help! No matter how you have trained, you have to gradually reduce your efforts as you get closer to your event, (Tapering). We use a one week Peak and a three week Taper for Full & 1/2 Ironman events and a 3 week build and a 1 week Taper for Olympic, X-terra, and Sprint events.

Can I receive "TRIATHLETIX - Individual" coaching even if I have not yet selected the date of my race?

Yes, we would be happy to help you choose a race during the initial consultation. Keep in mind that many races sell out well in advance so we can help you prepare even if the event is over a year away.

If lightning strikes me six weeks into the program will TRIATHLETIX still hold me to the three-month commitment?

Let's build a relationship on honor and trust. We ask that you be understanding about the enormous time commitment we make setting up your program in the early stages of your training. This requires us to have you stay on at least three months. If your world gets turned upside down and cannot live up to your obligation, reach out to us - we can suspend your account for a discussed period of time.

How many hours a week will I need to dedicate to training?

We understand that work, family and other things take priority in life, but the bare minimum is 8 to 10 hours a week for training. A few weeks may require a bit more time. Finishing an Ironman is a huge undertaking, and for many it's a lifetime achievement, so obviously you can't just show up without dedicating some time in preparation.

How will you help me if I'm really strong in one sport but really weak in another?

Rarely is a triathlete great in all three disciplines. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. The initial consultation will reveal your high points and your "special needs". We will create your program based on what you need to perfect and what you need to maintain.

How much flexibility will there be with my workouts?

You can move workouts if necessary to fit your schedule. There are key workouts that deserve special focus and cannot be skipped, but even they can be moved to other days in the week.

When will I connect with my coach?

TRIATHLETIX has several coaches on staff but, only Ian, Jamie, Jim & Carlyn coach the dedicated athletes that choose to "go long". You will hear from one of us within 48 hours of purchasing your program. We will do a detailed consultation at the onset, and we ask that you find 15 uninterrupted minutes for that call. After that, you will have weekly contact with us. There will be several time frames from which to choose and you can connect via phone or email.

Do I swim with a masters group or alone while on the program?

A group swim is a wonderfully motivating place to log the miles, but there are swim workouts written out for you, if you choose to swim on your own.
