Athlete of the Month: Michelle Perez Michelle Perez is easy to spot while training and racing; she's the one with a huge smile. Even when she exited one of the roughest swims of last season, the LA Triathlon 2001, she had a big toothy grin going. Her smile is infectious and so genuine that she was approached by a photographer at a race and asked to model for a View swim goggle ad that later appeared on page three of the December, 2001 Triathlete Magazine.
Michelle works in Los Angeles for the daytime television drama All My Children where she is a senior writer producer for on air promotion. She has also taught a spinning class at Gorilla Sports in Manhattan Beach for over four years. Her soap schedule has her tied to the office late most weekdays so she packs in her training during the morning hours. Back in high school Michelle ran track, and she was a solid member of her team. Michelle use triathlon to overcome here fear of the ocean. In 2000 she competed in the brutal Fog Dog Adventure race and finished with here team in tact after an incredible 46 hours and first in their division! She raced the Wildflower Long Course triathlon in 2001 and finished in a respectable 7:18, but has now stepped up her commitment to triathlon with her coached preparation for Ironman New Zealand set for March 2, 2002.
