Athlete of the
Month: Jason Berkowitz
Jason
came to the sport of Triathlon like most of us, inexperienced and with the word
“Newbie” written all over his face. But that didn’t stop him from entering
numerous short course races and showing up to local LA TRI Club practices
loaded with many questions on how to get better. What has set Jason apart
from the very beginning was his determination to learn as much as he could,
because one day he knew he would be taking on the ultimate challenge in
Triathlon: The Ironman! So on March 5th, 2005, Jason with family in
tow, flew down to New Zealand to compete in the 2005 New Zealand Ironman.
Jason came to TRIATHLETIX 4 months prior
to IMNZ to establish a training program to target this race as his goal of the
year. Training became somewhat of a labor of love as he soon learned the art of
balancing training with family and work obligations. An hour here, two
hours there, Jason found quality time to get the job done, one day at a time.
Over the course of his training, he found ways to get the long workouts
in using training partners, designing clever routes, and even getting three
workouts in on the same day!
All in all, Jason made his journey
into the IM distance a true success story. On race day he had a race plan
prepared, stuck to it and was able to complete his first IM in 14 hours!
Congratulations, Jason!
