Athlete of the Month: Nicki Loranger
Nicki
Loranger came to TRIATHLETIX via Team in Training last year when she competed in her
first very race, The Los Angeles Triathlon 2004.
Prior to LA, her athletic background was primarily in swimming, mainly as a
tough water polo competitor. Since then she has excelled in all
three sports, especially the bike. She made cycling her main focus going
into the National Championships in 2005. After several months of
training, while riding hard with the roadies, she honed in on her fitness and
technique to become a faster and more skillful cyclist! At Nationals
however, the race was canceled due to weather. All her efforts seemed to go
unchallenged, but soon after the cancellation, we learned that all
National competitors were eligible for the ITU Worlds in Hawaii.
Jumping at the chance, Nicki went to Hawaii to represent the USA and did she
ever represent. Even with a gnarly bike crash at mile 6, she scraped
herself off the pavement and went on to finish her first World
Championship and was the 15th American in her age group!
Go Nicki!!!
